HC Deb 30 November 1993 vol 233 cc421-2W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will provide a table showing for each standard region, with Greater London shown as a separate region, the total expenditure in 1992–93, and the budgeted expenditure in 1993–94, 1994–95 and 1995–96 in respect of(a) regional enterprise grant and (b) English Estates.

Mr. Sainsbury

Details of expenditure on the regional enterprise grants scheme and by English Estates for 1992–93 are shown in the Industrial Development Act 1982 annual report, a copy of which has been placed in the Library of the House.

For 1992–93, the London city challenge and task force areas were eligible for regional innovation grants, the only part of the Greater London region eligible for either element of the regional enterprise grants scheme. Provision for regional enterprise grants in 1993–94 in England is £8.8 million. This is not allocated on a regional basis. The regional enterprise grants scheme in England is to become part of the single regeneration budget from 1 April 1994 as announced by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment on 4 November 1993, Official Report, columns 515-25. Figures for forecast capital expenditure by English Estates in 1993–94 are as follows:

Forecast expenditure (£ million)
1993–94
North East 17.4
North West 19.2
Yorkshire and Humberside 9.6
West Midlands 1.0
East Midlands 1.8
South West 1.8
South East(former Chartham dockyard) 20.2
Greater London 0

English Estates will be incorporated into English Partnerships next spring. English Partnerships is currently in the process of drawing up its first corporate plan and regional budgets are not yet available.
