Ms Primarolo

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what are the numbers of female, male and ethnic minority directors, and chairs of NHS trusts, district health authorities and regional health authorities.

Information is not available centrally for executive members or directors. For non-executives, some 36 per cent.—1,429 out of 3,920 chairmen and non-executive appointees to national health service authorities and trusts—are women. Three per cent., 117 appointees, are from ethnic minority groups.

Ms Primarolo

Dr. Mawhinney

Chairmen of boards of national health service authorities and trusts are part-time appointments and minimum hours are not set. They are remunerated within a range £15,125 to £19,285 per annum according to the trust's turnover.
