§ Mr. CorbynTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how the effectiveness of the National Board for Crime Prevention will be measured;
(2) what quantifiable targets have been set for the National Board for Crime Prevention.
§ Mr. Charles WardleThe National Board for Crime Prevention was set up earlier this year as one element of the Government's crime prevention strategy. It is an ad hoc advisory body whose members serve voluntarily and without remuneration. As the board has no executive powers, it would not be appropriate to set performance targets for it.
The board has identified its initial priorities as retail crime, car crime, and young people and crime. Only when its recommendations and advice are implemented can methods for measuring their effectiveness be devised.
