HC Deb 29 November 1993 vol 233 cc376-7W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment he has made of the implications for(a) the United Kingdom environment and (b) the environment of the United Kingdom's trading partners of the implementation of the proposals in the Uruguay round of the general agreement on tariffs and trade.

Mr. Yeo

A successful outcome to the Uruguay round of the general agreement on tariffs and trade will bring lower tariffs on goods and a significant liberalisation of trade in services from which all countries will benefit. This should increase the resources available to finance environmental improvements and should help to promote sustainable development.
