HC Deb 26 November 1993 vol 233 c241W
Sir Thomas Arnold

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is her policy towards the provision of free counselling for patients diagnosed as HIV positive.

Mr. Sackville

Since 1985 it has been the Department of Health's policy that advice, counselling and HIV testing should be available for any person who might have been at risk of HIV infection or wishes to have a test. Counselling provided free through the national health service includes advice for those diagnosed HIV positive, on management of HIV-related disease and on how to avoid transmission of HIV infection.
