Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many places in secure accommodation there are for persons aged under 16 years in Scotland; and where they were located, in each year since 1986.

Until 1990 the Secretary of State paid grants towards the revenue costs of Rossie and St Mary's schools, but specific information on these payments is not readily available.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish the average annual cost of keeping a person in the accommodation units at(a) Rossie school, (b) St. Mary's Kenmure school, Glasgow, (c) Kerelaw school, Stevenson, (d) Howdenhall children's unit, Edinburgh, (e) Rumbleton house, Glenrothes, (f) Weedingshall youth care centre, Polmont and (g) Closeburn assessment centre, Closeburn; and what proportion of such cost is met by direct Government grant.
