To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on competition in the telecommunications industry.

The Government continue to base their telecommunications policy on the 1991 White Paper, "Competition and Choice: Telecommunications Policy for the 1990s", Cm 1461. We are firmly committed to greater competition and liberalisation in telecoms. These policies have created a vigorous sector to the benefit of both business and residential customers.
