Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from(a) Musselburgh and (b) Prestonpans in favour of putting those two towns in separate local authority areas; and how many representations he has received opposing the creation of such a boundary.

Since publication of the White Paper, "Shaping the Future—The New Council", a total of 29 individual letters from Musselburgh and two from Prestonpans have expressed concern over the restructuring proposals for these areas. In addition, a number of representations from outwith these areas have expressed concern over the problems to which the White Paper boundaries would give rise in Prestonpans.
