To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on the progress of his deregulation proposals.

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave earlier today to my hon. Friend the Member for High Peak (Mr. Hendry).

To ask the President of the Board of Trade how many officials are employed in deregulation duties in his Department.

Mr. Neil Hamilton

At present 50 people, including secondees from the private sector, are employed in the deregulation unit. In addition, officials in all Government Departments are reviewing regulations for which they are responsible.
