§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment(Baroness Denton of Wakefield)As explained in my Answer of 13th October, the Government Office Estate currently includes space in 1,202 buildings in London and the South East. Additional buildings, mostly of a specialist nature, which are supported by public funds are found in a wide range of military establishments, hospitals, prisons, research and testing facilities, training centres, courts, job centres, computer halls, stores, etc. Information on all these varied estates is not collected centrally and can be obtained only at disproportionate cost from the individual departments and public bodies that own or lease them.
