HC Deb 05 November 1993 vol 231 cc605-6W
Mr. Madden

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when all necessary and ordered winter supplies will be delivered to Bosnia, with particular reference to temporary shelter ordered by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees; what supplies await delivery to Bosnia; and what arrangements are being made to expedite the arrival of ordered winter supplies.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The UNHCR issued on 2 November a progress report on the winterization programme in the former Yugoslavia, copies of which have been placed in the Libraries of the House.

We are working closely with the UNHCR and other United Nations agencies. We have so far committed £152.5 million including our share of EC aid. We are financing shelter, road convoys, the restoration of coal and electricity supplies, medical help and food. We are supporting the United Nation's strong representations to the warring factions to stop obstructing these vital humanitarian supplies. We are a major contributor to the airlift to Sarajevo.
