HC Deb 05 November 1993 vol 231 cc596-7W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs who represented Hong Kong at the special Association of South-East Asian Nations—ASEAN—meeting in Tokyo on 25 to 27 October on export control and regional security; what was the outcome of the meeting; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Goodlad

Four officers from the trade department and the Customs and Excise department of the Hong Kong Government attended the Asian security export control seminar held in Tokyo on 25 to 27 October. Apart from Japan, which hosted the seminar, Australia, Brunei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillipines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and the United States were represented at the seminar. The seminar provided a useful forum for exchanging views on export control regimes. There was no discussion of specific regional security issues at this meeting.
