To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the annual cost of treating tobacco-related illness.

Mr. Sackville

Treatment costs to the national health service are estimated to be £437 million annually. This figure is for hospital costs only and does not include the costs of the care given by general practitioners or at health clinics or other care in the community.
