HC Deb 04 November 1993 vol 231 c353W
Mr. Riddick

To ask the President of the Board of Trade whether his Department intends to introduce regulations requiring electrical installations affected by BS7671, IEE wiring regulations, to be installed by registered contractors in a manner similar to that used for gas installations under the Confederation of Registered Gas Installers registered contractor scheme.

Mr. Baldry

I have been asked to reply.

Electric wiring is already controlled through the Electricity Supply Regulations 1988, as amended in 1990, and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. I am also considering the desirability of incorporating relevant electric wiring work into the Building Regulations, but the Government have no proposals to require all electrical installations to be installed by registered contractors.
