HC Deb 03 November 1993 vol 231 cc286-7W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the outcome of the open skies agreement trial flight over the United Kingdom by a Russian aircraft in June.

Mr. Hanley

A joint Russian/Belarussian inspection team arrived at RAF Brize Norton on 14 June this year to practise the provisions of the open skies treaty. The observation flight took place on 17 June from RAF Leuchars and, although adverse weather conditions prevented the inspection team from photographing as many of the agreed United Kingdom sites as they had hoped, the exercise was considered a success. The inspection team returned to Russia on 19 June.
