§ Mr. StrawTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will publish a table showing in respect of payment of income support for mortgage interest, for each financial year since 1988, the total amount paid, the number of new claims, the number of claims in payment and the average weekly payment.
§ Mr. BurtThe available information is in the table.
offices in the Ynys Mon constituency during each of the last two years; and what was the monthly amount spent on income support and Social Fund by each office in that period.I should explain that Social Fund (SF) discretionary budgets are allocated to each Benefits Agency District rather than individual offices. In the case of Gwyneddigion District, which includes the constituency of Ynys Mon, it is therefore only possible to show the information for the whole District.I enclose details of the SF budgets allocated to the District, together with details of monthly expenditure for each of the financial years 1991/92 and 1992/93. The provisional data for the current financial year to the end of September 1993 is also included.Turning to Income Support (IS), I should explain that IS is a demand led benefit and therefore not subject to a cash limit, as is the Social Fund. The information requested, regarding the monthly amount of IS spent, is therefore not available and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. This is because the details of benefit paid could only be obtained by examining all of the cases held at the Gwyneddigion District.I hope you find this reply helpful.
