§ Mr. Robin SquireThe new Government Department Ofsted—the Office for Standards in Education—was created on 1 September 1992. All inspections carried out by HMI or reports published since that date are a matter for Ofsted. I have asked Professor Sutherland to write to the hon. Member.
Prior to 1 September 1992, HMI was a member of this Department. HMI undertook a variety of types of inspection visit to schools and other educational institutions. Not all of these inspections were planned to lead to published reports. In the period January to August 1992 HMI published over 180 reports. I have placed a copy of the list of these reports in the Library.
