HC Deb 02 November 1993 vol 231 c133W
Mr. Gorst

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence who owns the narrow bridge adjacent to the Royal Air Force east camp at Hendon; what assessment he has made of the effect of the existence of this bridge on the possibility of disposing of the site; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hanley

The two bridges adjacent to the Royal Air Force east camp at Hendon are both owned by British Rail and, at present, only single-lane road traffic can pass beneath them. Employment-generating development, would be road traffic intensive and would require, inter alia, the widening of the bridges, at the prospective developer's significant expense. A use which generates a lower volume of road traffic would reduce the need for infrastructural improvements.
