HC Deb 02 November 1993 vol 231 cc151-2W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) if he will list the archaeological moated grange sites that are due to be lost because of planning permission approval being granted;

(2) if he will list for the last 10 years the archaeological moated grange sites that have been demolished.

Sir Hector Monro

The subject of the questions relates to matters undertaken by Historic Scotland. I have asked its chief executive, Mr Graeme Munro, to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Graeme N. Munro to Mr. Martin Redmond, dated 2 November 1993: Sir Hector Monro MP, the Minister for Agriculture and Environment at The Scottish Office, has asked me to reply to your two recent Parliamentary Questions about archaeological moated grange sites. You asked if the Secretary of State would list such sites that have been demolished in the last 10 years and that are due to be lost because of planning permission approval being granted. Moated granges are very rare in Scotland. Historic Scotland is not aware of any that have been demolished over the last 10 years nor of any which are due to be lost because of planning permission having been granted. If you have concerns about specific moated sites in Scotland I would be pleased to know about them.
