§ Mr. Stewart[holding answer 25 October 1993]: Since the publication of the White Paper "Shaping the Future —The New Councils", 417 individual letters commenting on the proposal to create a new single-tier authority for Berwickshire and East Lothian have been received, of which 341 came from Berwickshire. About 1,850 postcards, pro forma letters and petition signatures have also been received from people objecting to the Government's proposals for Berwickshire.
§ Mr. Home RobertsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many(a) individuals and (b) organisations, in Berwickshire have had their views conveyed to him (i) in favour of his plan to detatch Berwickshire from the Borders local authority area, and (ii) against that proposal.
