HL Deb 02 November 1993 vol 549 c110WA
Lord Spens

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied that the Drax power station has a viable future and, if not, whether this analysis will be disclosed in the privatisation proposal.

Lord Strathclyde

The future of power stations is a commercial matter for the companies which own them. In the case of Drax power station, this is National Power.

Lord Spens

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether imported coal can compete in terms of quality and price directly with the output of the five mines which comprise the "Selby Complex" coalfield and whether there are any plans for the Drax power station to use imported coal.

Lord Strathclyde

Any plans for the use of imported coal at Drax power station are a matter for National Power.
