HC Deb 01 November 1993 vol 231 c46W
14. Sir David Knox

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what was the value of grants to voluntary organisations from his Department in the most recent year for which figures are available; and what was the figure for 1978–79, at constant prices.

Sir Wyn Roberts

The total value of direct grants from my Department to the voluntary sector in 1992–93 was £12.3 million; for indirect grants the figure was £201.4 million. The earliest financial year for which directly comparable figures can be determined is 1988–89, when the equivalent expenditure at 1992–93 prices was £7.9 million and £92 million respectively. However, since 1978–79 Welsh Office support for the voluntary sector has trebled in real terms.
