HC Deb 01 November 1993 vol 231 c12W
Mr. Bendall

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will ensure that the right of London's taxis to ply freely for hire at railway stations serving London commuters will be maintained following rail privatisation.

Mr. Norris

Following privatisation, British Rail stations will be owned by the new body, Railtrack, which will remain in the public sector for some time. There are no plans to change the Act of 1907 which gives taxis free access to stations within the Metropolitan police district, but this is one of the topics discussed in the consultation paper on the future of taxi and private hire services which was published on 27 October.
