HC Deb 01 November 1993 vol 231 cc61-2W
Mr. Simon Coombs

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what changes she proposes to the cash limits and running costs limits for OPCS for 1993–94.

Mr. Sackville

Subject to parliamentary approval of the necessary supplementary estimate, the cash limit for class XII, vote 6 (Office of Population Censuses and Surveys) will he increased by £989,000 from £32,671,000 to £33,660,000 and the running costs limit of OPCS will be increased by £1,444,000 from £46,695,000 to £48,139,000. This reflects the take up of £238,000 for running costs and £751,000 for capital under the end-year flexibility arrangements announced by my right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary to the Treasury on 14 July 1993 at columns512–17. The increase in public expenditure will be charged to the Reserve and will therefore not add to the planning total.

It also reflects increased running costs provision of £635,000 and capital provision of £284,000 in the national health centre register area for work on the Department of Health's national health service number programme; increased running costs provision of £10,000 and capital provision of £20,000 for work on the aggregation of local authority wards; increased running costs provision of £561,000 for the work of the Parliamentary Boundary Commission. These increases will be offset by an increase in appropriations in aid on the OPCS vote and met from within the existing resources of the Department of Health (class XII, vote 3) and the Home Office (class VIII, vote 3). This will not add to the planned total of public expenditure.
