HC Deb 01 November 1993 vol 231 c48W
24. Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received on the funding of local government for the next financial year.

Mr. Redwood

On 13 July I chaired a meeting of the Welsh Consultative Council on Local Government Finance at which I discussed, with representatives of the local authority associations, their assessment of local government's need to spend in 1994–95. I will take account of that assessment in my settlement decisions. However, the settlement will also need to reflect the need to restrain public expenditure to an affordable level.
