To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department how many judges have been appointed since the current Lord Chancellor was appointed.

The total number of judges who have taken up appointment in England and Wales since 27 October 1987 is 348. This figure is made up of seven Law Lords, including Lord Jauncey from Scotland, and Lord Lowry from Northern Ireland, four head of divisions, 23 Lords Justices, 65 High Court judges and 249 circuit judges. These figures include those judges who have been appointed to successive offices in this period.
