HC Deb 01 November 1993 vol 231 c45W
31. Mr. John Marshall

To ask the right hon. Member for Selby, as representing the Church Commissioners if he will make a statement about the impact on clergy pensions of the results of Church Commissioners' investments.

Mr. Alison

The current level of clergy pensions is amply covered by the Commissioners' resources. The report of the Lambeth group has, however, recommended that regular contributions should be made to a segregated fund to ensure that accruing liabilities in respect of future service are provided for as they arise and this is under consideration.

33. Mr. Thurnham

To ask the right hon. Member for Selby, as representing the Church Commissioners what representations he has received about the future level of clergy pensions; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alison

None. The Church remains committed to the provision of reasonable pensions and retirement accommodation for its clergy and their dependants. The Lambeth report, which was one of those I referred to in my earlier reply to the hon. Member for Southwark and Bermondsey (Mr. Hughes), has recommended that some features of the existing scheme might be re-examined, and this will be done in the context of that commitment.
