To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish figures indicating(a) the number of claimants for income support in respect of mortgage interest, (b) the average weekly payment and (c) the total annual payment in each year since 1988.

Figures for claimants of income support who have mortgage relief considered in their assessment are shown in the following table. Those for 1988 are not readily available. Deductions may be made to cover assumed contributions from non-dependants living in the household. The amounts quoted are those considered in the assessment rather than the amounts actually paid to claimants.
