HL Deb 26 May 1993 vol 546 c27WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether their plans to change the rules governing compensation for victims of rape and violent assault will result in changes in the amounts paid to victims.

Earl Ferrers

In moving from a scheme which is based on common law damages, in which each case is assessed on its individual merits, to one which is based on a tariff of payments, it is inevitable that there will be some changes in the amounts paid. The precise details of the new scheme, including injury groupings and corresponding tariff payments, have yet to be determined. They will be set out in a White Paper in the summer.
