HL Deb 26 May 1993 vol 546 c18WA
Earl Russell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many ceasefires have been agreed in former Yugoslavia since the beginning of the conflict there.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

There have been numerous ceasefires during the conflicts in former Yugoslavia, both in the current fighting in Bosnia and in the earlier conflict in Croatia. Although some have been negotiated by leaders of the parties, and were supposed to cover the whole area of conflict, others have been brokered locally by UN or ECMM monitors. No ceasefire has so far been respected for a long period, either in Bosnia or Croatia, although there is currently no large-scale conflict in Croatia.
