To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many British soldiers are part of the British Army of the Rhine; and what was the total cost in the last financial year.

The military strength of the British Army of the Rhine is currently about 39,000 and the total operating cost of BAOR in financial year 1992–93 was approximately £1,440 million.
