To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what plans he has to extend widows' bereavement allowance to include men; and if he will make a statement on the application of section 51A of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975.

There are no plans at present to extend the widows' bereavement allowance to widowers. Section 51A of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 has no application to the question whether widows' bereavement allowance should be extended to widowers.
