To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what percentage of the land area of England is not served by broadcasts by(a) independent television and (b) BBC television.

Broadcasters determine transmitter coverage to serve resident populations rather than areas of land. About 99.4 per cent. of the United Kingdom population is able to receive both BBC and independent television services.
