HC Deb 25 May 1993 vol 225 c533W
Mr. Dafis

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment has been made of the impact of British Nuclear Fuels' new radioactive discharge applications for the Sellafield area on levels of discharges of radioactive pollution around the United Kingdom coastline.

Mr. Curry

I have been asked to reply.

Detailed assessment of those members of the public who would potentially be the most exposed to radiation from the proposed discharges to the marine environment has confirmed that their doses would be well within nationally and internationally recommended limits and much less than doses from natural sources. It follows that the doses to the rest of the United Kingdom population would be even smaller. Full details of their assessment were included in an explanatory memorandum which accompanied the draft authorisations issued for public consultation on 16 November 1992. A copy of these documents is in the Library.
