HL Deb 25 May 1993 vol 546 c9WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How Fertility Clinics in the private sector in the United Kingdom, which are negotiating fertility treatment contracts with the United States health insurance companies, are properly to carry out the counselling which is mandatory on them under the terms of their licences from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)

In accordance with the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990, centres which provide licensed fertility treatment must offer prospective patients, whatever their national origin, proper counselling before treatment commences.
