To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list(a) the additional special protection areas and (b) wetlands of international importance that have been designated in Wales during the last two years; and what plans he has for further designations.

Since 1 April 1991, six sites in Wales have been designated as special protection areas (SPAs) under the EC Birds Directive and four sites designated under the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention). The sites are as follows:

There are a number of other sites in Wales which are under consideration by the Countryside Council for Wales in a rolling programme of designations. The council's target is to submit six sites to the Welsh Office in 1993–94.
