HC Deb 25 May 1993 vol 225 c527W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what technical guidance the Building Research Establishment has provided Owners and operators of air conditioning systems to phase out CFC-dependent systems.

Mr. Maclean

Since 1989 the Building Research Establishment has published two information papers, two digests and eight journal articles and conference papers containing advice and guidance for owners and operators of air conditioning systems on the phase-out of chlorofluorocarbons. These publications, which are listed, address such issues as the availability of suitable alternative refrigerants, the conversion of existing CFC-based air conditioning systems to operate on alternative refrigerants, minimisation of CFC emissions from air conditioning systems, and the health and safety aspects of new refrigerants.
