To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answer of 5 May,Official Report, column 117, what assessment he has made of the average time taken by a motorist to drive through Builth Wells in (a) February and (b) August.

Such assessments are made only in months little affected by seasonal traffic: April, May, June, September and October. The average journey times on the trunk roads between the limits of the proposed Builth Wells by pass were 181 seconds for the A470 and 340 seconds for the A483.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answer on 5 May,Official Report, column 117, what is the average annual road accident figure; and how many road accidents took place in Builth Wells in 1992.

The average annual number of accidents that occurred in Builth Wells over the last five years on the A470 and A483 trunk roads, within the limits of the proposed bypass, was eight. The provisional number for 1992, within the same limits, is nine.
