§ Mr. MaddenTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received about introducing new offences connected with racial hatred and racial attacks; and what plans he has to propose such new offences as an amendment to the Criminal Justice Bill [Lords].
§ Mr. JackThe Commission for Racial Equality in its second review of the Race Relations Act 1976, recommended that consideration be given to specifically crimnalising racial violence and racial harassment. All the CRE's recommendations are now under consideration.
§ Mr. leuan Wyn JonesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimates have been made by his Department of the total annual cost of criminal activities of drug users in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. JackThe involvement of drug misusers in criminal activity is difficult to quantify. It has not yet been possible to produce reliable estimates of the cost of drug-related offending, although work is continuing.
