The Committee on the Review of Medicines (CRM) was disestablished on 31 March 1992, following the completion of its review of the safety, quality and efficacy of substances or articles in respect of which product licences of right were granted, in accordance with section 25 of the Medicines Act 1968. The membership of the CRM was published in its last annual report for 1991. Copies are available in the Library.

The Medicines Control Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the Department of Health. Dr. K. H. Jones, its chief executive and director, is responsible and accountable to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the day to day management of the licensing of medicines for human use and its associated activities—the responsibility of Ministers (`the UK Licensing Authority')—under the provisions of the Medicines Act 1968 and associated European directives.

In accordance with statutory requirements, the annual reports for the MC, CSM, BPC and MCA are presented to Parliament each year.
