To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what study he has made of the effect of salt spray on roads such as the A68 insidiously killing hedges.

[holding answer 20 May 1993]: The roads directorate of the Scottish Office Industry Department has not undertaken any such specific study and is unaware of any evidence of damage to hedges.
