HC Deb 21 May 1993 vol 225 cc353-4W
Mr. Congdon

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will provide figures per council of the range of cash incentives available to council tenants to purchase a property in the private sector.

Mr. Baldry

Section 129 of the Housing Act 1988 empowers local authorities to operate a cash incentive scheme to give grants to their tenants to help them obtain other accommodation by buying or leasing a home. These schemes are a valuable and cost-effective way of securing vacancies for reletting to homeless people.

The table lists schemes approved by the Department to date for 1993–94 and gives the range of grant payable under each scheme.
