To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the cost of implementing EC water directives in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Atkins

Compliance with the EC directive on drinking water, urban waste water treatment and bathing water will require a total capital expenditure estimated at £622 million in the period up to 2005.
