HC Deb 19 May 1993 vol 225 cc225-6W
Mr. Alan W. Williams

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if it is Government policy to await the establishment of an international plutonium store before the thermal oxide reprocessing plant at Sellafield is granted a licence to operate.

Mr. Eggar

No. Strict controls operate over the shipment of plutonium from United Kingdom reprocessing plants. These arrangements are quite separate from the nuclear site licence and discharge authorisations that may be required by any nuclear site. No plutonium will be shipped from Sellafield unless the Government are satisfied that it will not be misused.
