Standard Spending Assessments

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how far the review of the system of standard spending assessments calculation has progressed; and when the review of SSAs will be completed.

We have so far received replies from 112 local authorities responding to our invitation to make representations on the review of standard spending assessments and to provide evidence to support any proposed changes.

There have been three meetings between my officials and representatives of the local authority associations to discuss technical issues.

The review of SSAs will be completed in time for any changes to be incorporated in the revenue support grant settlement for 1994–95.
