28. Mr. Tipping

To ask the President of the Board of Trade when financial assistance to offset the consequences of colliery closures will be available in Nottinghamshire.

Mr. Eggar

Details of the regeneration measures proposed for the Nottinghamshire coalfield areas were announced by the relevant Departments and agencies concerned on Thursday 13 May. The Secretary of State for Transport also announced on 6 May support of £6.5 million from coal regeneration funds for the Robin Hood line.

To ask the President of the Board of Trade when he last met the chairman of British Coal to discuss the effects of pit closures.

Mr. Heseltine

My hon. Friend the Minister for Energy and I meet the chairman of British Coal as necessary to discuss a wide range of issues concerning the coal industry.

Mr. Corbyn

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on the latest situation regarding pit closures.

Mr. Eggar

Decisions on pit closures are a matter for British Coal, after consultation with the unions.
