HL Deb 18 May 1993 vol 545 c85WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the United Nations Security Council, which stated that it would "consider immediately necessary further steps to achieve a peaceful solution to the situation in Bosnia", has made any progress in this matter.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

The United Nations Security Council continues to remain actively engaged in helping to bring about peace in the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It reviews the situation in Bosnia on a daily basis. The Security Council has adopted 39 resolutions on the situation in former Yugoslavia since the crisis began, the last being SCR 824, adopted on 6th May, which declared that Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zepa, Bihac and Gorazde should be treated as safe areas. We believe that international efforts should now concentrate on pressing the Bosnian Serbs to accept the Vance Owen peace plan as the only credible proposal for a peaceful settlement.
