HC Deb 17 May 1993 vol 225 c84W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if Her Majesty's Government will now declare a moratorium on testing nuclear warheads with a view in the medium term to a comprehensive test ban treaty on nuclear weapons.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

There is of course no question of our conducting further nuclear tests at Nevada while the current US moratorium remains in force. But the Government believe that progress towards a comprehensive test ban should be made on a negotiated and verifiable basis.

Ms Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what progress he has made in the negotiation of a comprehensive test ban treaty.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I have been asked to reply.

No negotiations for such a treaty are now in progress.
