Mr. Parry

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the total funding from Her Majesty's Government towards the rehabilitation of St. George's hall, Liverpool; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Robin Squire

Her Majesty's Government resources in the form of urban programme funding, from my Department, totals some £4,875,531 since mid-1990.

Mr. Parry

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the total cost of funding from Her Majesty's Government towards the cost of the rehabilitation of London road, Liverpool; what is the approximate date of completion; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Robin Squire

A figure for the total contribution by Her Majesty's Government to this area will not be available until the conclusion of the five year Liverpool city challenge programme of which London road is an integral part. To date, grants totalling £3,882,000 have been offered to projects in the area, in addition to which city challenge has allocated £750,000 over five years to the London road development agency. My officials and the city challenge team are involved in ongoing discussions with developers regarding numerous other projects which may attract grant in the future.
