To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the number of whole-time equivalent junior hospital doctors and the total wage bill in each of the last five years; and what are the projected figures for the next two years.

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave her on 20 April at columns76–78, for the available information on the junior doctors wage bill.

The available information on the number of whole-time equivalent junior doctors is shown in the table. The Department does not make detailed forward projections for the number of whole-time equivalent junior doctors.
